The Genius 300 MCE Universal Remote

After the terrible experience I had with my Logitech Harmony 890 I was at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. I have been using the Harmony 890 to simply turn everything on and off and my iMon iPad to drive Media Centre but this solution has had problems of its own. Read more...

no_signal.jpg

I have come to accept a sad reality of the modern Home Theatre PC and that is that you probably won't be able to pick up every free-to-air channel, all of the time. My own experience over the last 6 months has been that Vista Media Centre will report No Signal for some channels, seemingly at random, and for up to 3-4 days at a time. Read more...

January 26th, 2009

buyers_guide_title.jpg

Consumers have spoken and the word is 'Netbooks'. They have come a long in way from their humble beginnings as the EEE PC 701 in just a little over 12 months. With the vast majority now sporting the 1.6GHZ Atom processor and a 1024x600+ resolution they have managed to work their way into the realm of everyday computing. Small, light, and most importantly cheap, these mini laptops have proven that consumers are indeed willing to sacrifice on performance for price and portability. Read more...

January 17th, 2009

890_extender.jpg

Universal remotes have been around for some time but most of them came at a very high price and featured a very complicated interface. The Logitech Harmony range of remotes has been a breath of fresh air for this market as they offer a solution for almost every price range and in a relatively simple looking package. Boasting support for a staggering 225,000 devices, the Harmony should allow you to consolidate a number of existing remotes and control all of your A/V equipment with a minimum of fuss. Read more...

January 9th, 2009

sandisk 4gb extreme III

Being an avid photography enthusiast i have invested in a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) to document and capture my life story. One of the crucial components of a DSLR is the memory card utilized in storing the images taken by the user. The Compact Flash (CF) format is used by my Canon DSLR and over the years i have managed to collect an array of Sandisk memory cards. Not all CF cards are created equal and one of the key differentiators is that of read and write access speeds. But does paying a premium for faster memory cards actually hold up in reality?
